How do garage door sensors work?
Garage door sensors use infrared beams to detect objects in the path of a closing door. One sensor, called the sending unit, emits an infrared beam, and the other, called the receiving unit, receives it. The sensors are usually placed about two to six inches off the ground on either side of the garage door. When the door is open and nothing is blocking the beam of light between the sensors, the door will close automatically.
